What's wrong with the board, and what should we do about it?
Ivan wrote that several of you contacted him saying that the board is unreadable. What are your reasons, and what should be done about it. Please keep your input strictly to this topic.

Re: What's wrong with the board, and what should we do about
To be understood, I mean that I have got not private messages, but messages in public discussions.
1. Fyodor T. said that it is difficult to track all the news. I think that he is in OberonCore team, so I made conclusion that it is important to have all decisions in short form somewhere (for example, web-site or wiki).

2. Peter K. suggested that not much Russian members take part in discussion because of the language barrier. I guess that Ivan K. and Peter K. also have not much time for reading very long discussions, that is why they are not very active here. Summary will help for all busy members.

Re: What's wrong with the board, and what should we do about
I have not complained so far about pphpBB's user interface but reading Ivan's and Rene's postings I would agree with it.
In particular reading all the new postings requires a lot of user interactions. It is not as simple as
scanning the new postings in a usenet news reader. Or at least I have not found out
what the trick is. I know that there is a link 'View unread posts' on the top level page
and there is a link 'First unread post' in the selected thread.
I guess there is little we can do about it because it is built into the forum software.

Abuse of this thread, Ivan. Your post has nothing to do with "What's wrong with the board, and what should we do about it?". Moderator: abuse resolved.
So far, Josef told us that it's rather unintuitive to find new messages.
I think the other problem is lack of discipline. We have lots of threads, where the same topics are discussed, which have nothing to do with the "subject" of the thread. This makes for long and tedious readings.

Re: What's wrong with the board, and what should we do about
The forum is a great tool for the discussion and voting and should be used for that. But to find information in forum will be always more difficult than in static web-site or wiki.
The reason is that the forum could not be structured well. The threads have historical order instead of logical. We can tip the hot topic to top but that is all. The name of the threads can be changed only by moderator, but that is not ethic to do often for people who starts the threads. There is no way to keep the draft in one place except having moderator rights and change the top message. And in that case, the history of changes will be lost.
+ my English is not very well, and people better read good final draft in Wiki with good English kept by English tongue members rather than my long unclear postings...

There is a forum template "subsilver2" (default for http://forum.oberoncore.ru/) where the link 'View unread posts' is present "anywhere".Josef Templ wrote:I know that there is a link 'View unread posts' on the top level page

1) Fyodor Tkachov isn't the OberonCore team member.Ivan Denisov wrote:1. Fyodor T. said that it is difficult to track all the news. I think that he is in OberonCore team, so I made conclusion that it is important to have all decisions in short form somewhere (for example, web-site or wiki).

2) In our interpretation, the post referred by Ivan means not 'it is difficult to track all news of "center"' but is an abstract example for Ivan ('try to read all world-news for last two months').

In our interpretation there is nothing said by Peter Kushnir about language barrier in the the post referred by Ivan. Hope he can explain this himself.Ivan Denisov wrote:2. Re: What's wrong with the board, and what should we do about
ReneK, in this oberoncore's topic I was talking about "language barrier" for english and deutch users on oberoncore forum, not vice versa. As I recall, blackboxframework.org for that moment was not even existing.Ivan Denisov wrote:2. As for my activity, I'm reading every "new" post on this forum, but, as I was talking in http://forum.blackboxframework.org/view ... p?p=72#p72 for me it's still nothing to organize without any news from Ominc.

That is not true. Peter, the talk was about new forum.Peter Kushnir wrote:blackboxframework.org for that moment was not even existing.
