Motivation: The BlackBox discussion list from Oberon microsystems will close after Nov 30, 2014. This issue is to fill that loss.

(A) Add text messaging to forum post notifications.

• (i) user has option of having the text of the message included in the notification.
  (ii) 'reply' to notification is added for text notifications.
  (iii) replies are broadcast to all users who have asked to be notified.
  (iii.a) non text notification if not text notification specified.
  (iii.b) text notification if so specified.
  (iv) replies are automatically added to the forum Discussion to the Topic which equals the Subject of the reply message.

(B) Facet (A) is added for both Center Discussions and Community Discussions.
(C) phpbb software needs to be created to handle the added text notifications.

In a way to find good alternative for mailing list Doug suggested to try the MOD for phpBB called Postnotices To Groups

I installed Postnotices To Groups MOD in our forum and it seems the it should work. Now each member will have ability to make the Group notice for each important message on forum for attraction of Center members attention. There is special tab bellow the message for this purpose now.

If this will work well, we can install such MOD for the community forum and suggest this way as an alternative for oberon mailing list.

I don't see the tab.

I also think we need to 'tweek' the message sent to the user.

Messages should start with

From: name

Doug, I think, that I can tweak this. I will find template and modify it. The tab is in the same place where Upload attachments.
Chris, you can switch off all notifications in profile settings.
However, I think, that this notifications will note abuse you more than oberon mailing list.
Only important messages should be sent, members should think twice before using Group notice.

I do not know why... I thought this will be enough. However, I think, that this is good, because it copy mailing list behavior. For sure you can unsubscribe by leaving Center group (I do not want this happen). I will check all later. And I do not agree with Doug, that each message should be mailed, because this really can abuse during the working day.
