Doug, but who will do this? I will not. I can only install MOD and slightly modify. I can not spend more time.

A against of voting for issue #20 as it is.

I think we want a "Topic" or "Forum" (I am not sure of the terminology) with a name like "General List" or "Community List" or "Miscellaneous" or
"Email list" or even "Communications", and encourage everyone from the Oms list (and others) to subscribe.

The idea would be that everyone subscribed would receive emails containing the contents of every post. Ie it would be a near continuation of the Oms
list.

Of course:

- People would have the option to turn off automatic emails if they really wished
- If the traffic increased significantly we would reconsider the system.

We would ask / expect people to move their correspondence to a different / specialised forum should any topic generate a large amount of detailed discussion. But by
then the general audience would know that the topic existed, and could subscribe to that other forum if they were interested.

And we want to try to get the system started, and people registered, well before the end of November. There are bound to be initial problems, and we want to be able to use the
Oms list to help sort these problems out while it still exists.

I agree with Doug that the "Preamble" that goes with each email wants to be as short as possible. I do not like the use of the word "Important", it may discourage people
from using the system to ask for help with apparently minor problems. A big advantage of the Oms list was (is ?) that it was not intimidating for people who have limited
experience of using more sophisticated systems.

I am sending this as a "Group notice" again, partly as an experiment. Hope you don't mind receiving it too much! :!:

Ivan,
I believe it might be possible to get members of phpBB to do the work for us or other users of phpBB.
I will contact phpBB and or their discussion groups to inquire about that.

I have found a contractor who charges US$30/hour for creating phpBB code and have sent him a messages describing our needs.

It also occurs to me that we might be able to get funding for this by using Kickstarter or Indiegogo

I truly do not understand the opposition to creating a mailing list.
Would you please explain that to me?

I think, that we do not need to make the same mailing list. The forum is more effective and modern way of communication. We gave you many arguments during the discussion:

http://forum.blackboxframework.org/view ... =145#p1454

Also mail box today become more private place. Many people use it for work and do not want to get big emails traffic.

We should not spend money for inventing some mail-forum connections.
The big part of the mailing list already registered on forum:

Ivan's previous reply actually gives the reason for having an Oms style mailing list as well.

He is obviously very competent at doing things such as including quotes from previous posts, and making links
out of magic mixes of letters (phb????).

Many of us don't have a clue how to do these things, and don't want to learn before we can communicate on a list.

I don't even know how to see the post I am replying to while writing the reply, which doesn't help!

Click on the Quote button on the post that you are replying to and delete the text you don't want included in the quote
, and making links out of magic mixes of letters (phb????).
Each post in the forum has a url that you can see in the address box of your browser. You can copy / paste that link into your message if you want to refer to another message
Many of us don't have a clue how to do these things,
That is no different to anything else you do for the first time. Click on the FAQ link at the top right hand of the forum screen for tips on how to do things
and don't want to learn before we can communicate on a list.
All you really have to do is click on Post Reply, type your reply and click on the Submit button. I was using forums like these for several weeks before I started to experiment with the fancy functions. You found out how to use emoticons a lot quicker than I did ;)
I don't even know how to see the post I am replying to while writing the reply, which doesn't help!
All of the previous posts should be visible beneath the panel that you are entering your text into. Maybe you have your screen set to low resolution and it is scrolled off the bottom of the screen?

The consultant for modifying phpBB replied.
He didn't think email-forum interactions were feasible.
o Email to post would loose information if email had attachments or non text format.
o Post to email would suffer similar problems.
o Interaction between the two would be complex and not easily doable.
