If we use a virtual Linux server for hosting it can be used for whatever task will appear in the future.
So we don't have to specify the individual tasks up front. I would start with a small server and
upgrade it as needed. With the money collected so far we can already run this server for a couple of years.
The Edis home page states that upgrading is easy and does not
require any re-installation. It is basically a licensing issue.

The basic tasks for hosting in my understanding are:
- hosting of the phpBB forum software,
- hosting of a download page, which needs some form of Content Management System such as WordPress,
- hosting of additional information such as an FAQ, change lists, or whatever is needed.

In the future we could also offer hosting the Component Pascal Collection, if
we can get Helmut Zinn (http://www.zinnamturm.eu/) on board.

The source code repository and an issue tracker would be on something like GitHub,
so we don't have to think about this for the hosting.

If we use a Linux server, we will not easily be able to run any BB software there, as for instance the O3 Webserver, should we ever want that. Also, if all we want to do on our webserver is host a forum and a CMS, there maybe pure webhosting services without full access to a virtual machine of any kind doing the trick, too.

According to Werner Braun's mail to the blackbox mailing list from 4th of May 2009 14:47
O3 runs fine on Wine.

If we have a virtual Linux server it should also be possible to run Wine and thereby
any or at least most of the Blackbox software.
The alternative of using a virtual Windows server seems to be more
complicated, vulnerable, and expensive, so I would continue with
Ivan's proposal of hosting on a virtual Linux server.

Disclaimer: I have to add that I am not an expert in
hosting or in Linux or in Wine or in O3 and I have not tested it myself.
