Hosting location vote
Dear BlackBox Maintainers Group,
Let's vote for the hosting. We were waiting enough for everybody can suggest an option.
The technical discussion led us to the decision, that we should order Virtual Server at Edis:
- this hosing company gives a wide range of choice for locations of web server
- the prices are a little less than a middle for the market
Now we have some choice in location and charge rate.
The location should be so everybody in the North Hemisphere has got short ping time < 150ms. That is possible if server is at:
- Germany, Frankfurt
- UK, London
- Switzerland, Zürich
During the next vote we will choose the charge rate $4/m or $6.5/m.

Re: Hosting vote
We need only two voice more for validation of this vote.
Re: Hosting vote
Just for those of the center members who come late to this vote:
I will not vote on this question, since
1) For now, this topic is non-essential to what the center needs doing. It is a purely technical questions (how to do somethint), and we still have not decided the important questions (what do we need).
2) The vote doesn't have an option "non of the above"
3) hosting the website there costs money, and for the current center use there are options that cost nothing (like using OberonCore's generous offer to host for the time being), but those options are not listed here
I assume that OberonCore takes the same stance.

Re: Hosting vote
If we will know the place it does not mean we should rent the hosting soon. But this is one step to solve the web-hosting problem. I am also can host for free, but only in Moscow. However most of voted people wants site, forum and so on to be in Zürich. So they do not like how it is going now I guess.

Dear, center members, do we need to make new poll? From the scratch? If we need, please let your options.

Re: Hosting location vote
Rene has already made it clear that he is abstaining from voting. That means we have now satisfied the number required for a quorum (7 votes + 1 abstention) and there is a clear majority.
I recommend that future votes of this type always include options for 'None of the above' and 'Abstain' (there is a difference).

Re: Hosting location vote
As Rene has said in mailing list OberonCore is abstaining too. So, you are right, this vote can be counted as legal.cfbsoftware wrote:Rene has already made it clear that he is abstaining from voting. as far as I know, OberonCore and I are missing from this vote - on purpose. Please read the voting thread.
Thanks
Rene

In my opinion
o site is essential and comes first
o what to do comes second
o Cost of site is part of the process of choosing the site
Re: Hosting vote
As I see it, we disagree on this point, but that's not too important, since the group voted validly on this. So, the majority has an opinion, which goes against mine, and that is just fine.DGDanforth wrote: Rene,
